A few shots with the new telescope

It’s been smoky so I’ve had time to take apart the cheap 114mm f/8 refractor I picked up. Both mirrors are cleaned, the mirror clips were way too tight, and I center spotted the primary for easy collimation. And it looks much better with a coat of purple paint!

It’s still smoky but there weren’t any clouds so I took it out for a peek at some brighter targets. The cheap focuser is very finicky – I can see it snap to sharp focus but I have trouble getting it to actually stop at that point. So the focus quality varies throughout these shots as I was experimenting with it. I’d like to put an upgraded focuser on it, but it would cost more than the scope itself!
